archers unit type evony

The bow and arrow, invented in prehistoric times, greatly improved the hunting skills of early man that allowed him to kill his targets from a distance. The bow was adapted for use in battle and was first used by Egyptian, Persian, and Assyrian armies as early as 5000 BC. The range gave by the bow allowed small forces of archers to rout armies of superior numbers of hand-to-hand weapons. Archers were often used to soften enemy resistance before they would send in their mounted or skirmish forces.

Game Description

Archers are good at performing assaults from long distances. They are effective against nearly all types of infantry.

Advantages and Uses

Archer rainbows can be used to farm lv10 NPC's.

They are probably the most versatile unit, both in attack and defence because of their speed and range.

In battle where there are no wall defences and no ranged units on the opposing side (e.g. in valleys), archers will set the range and fire first getting a large number of hits and rounds before the enemy can even attack.

They are relatively cheap to produce and can be queued in large numbers with sufficient population.

Train quickly with a good hero.

At the beginning of the server a large amount of archers will give u a massive advantage over opposing players.

In defence because of the wall bonus arches range increase to 2400.

Ballista and catapults can make very short work of them In defence without wall units to set the range at 5000 paces a phract smack can wipe millions of archers in one go. If you hit a large number of lv10 NPC's you will find yourself quickly going through your archers and having to constantly train more.

Most of these figures are accurate, a few are off by a couple of seconds. But overall they are a good indication of what the bonuses are. The formula for the technology bonus is very simple, 10% reduction per level, ((min*60+sec)-10%)/60. The attack bonus was slightly harder to figure out but in the end it seems every 100 points of attack reduce the time by 13%, so ((min*60+sec)-13%)/60.
